Phishing scams by email or text message
Legitimate emails from St Catherine’s will come from an email address ending with @stcatherines.uwa.edu.au. A scammer may use a variation disguised to look like the correct one (for example, @stcatherines.uwa.edu.ac). Although rare, there is also a possibility for scammers to “spoof” our correct email address.
Additionally, St Catherine’s does not send anything by text message. Do not click on any links or open attachments from phishing scams by email or text message.
Fake websites
Phishing scams by email or text message may include links that could take you to a fake website that looks like ours, but has a slightly different website address. Our correct website address is stcatherines.uwa.edu.au. A scammer may use a variation disguised to look like the correct one (for example, stcatherines.uwa.edu.ac).
Additionally, our website uses an encrypted connection, and this can be identified by the use of ‘https:’ rather than ‘http:’ at the start of our website address. A closed padlock or unbroken key icon should also appear, either next to the website address or at the bottom right corner of your browser window. If any of these elements are not present, you are on a fake website.
Phone
Legitimate phone calls from St Catherine’s will come from our main phone number +61 8 9442 0400. If you receive a phone call claiming to be from St Catherine’s and their Caller ID appears to be different from our main phone number, ask for their name and contact number and end the call. You should then make an independent check by directly calling our main phone number to verify the legitimacy of the phone call.
